Create Clarity.

I’ve always been passionate about finding clarity. I believe that almost all problems – in business and otherwise – can be solved if you begin with pursuing clarity. From there, you plan. From there, you work smartly and relentlessly.

Early in my career as a writer and public relations practitioner, I learned that there’s a lot of power in words. Then I learned that powerful words alone can’t be effective if they don’t solve the reader’s problem, or curiosity, or quest for knowledge. Some people can’t be convinced out of a wet paper bag, as some say.

I then learned to be a strategist who solves marketing communications challenges. I like puzzles and I like solving them.

Apply It to Business Challenges.

I found my tribe in the full-service marketing agency world. The more you create clarity, internal and external, the better you can solve problems and create results.

Clients trust you, or they leave. It’s not for faint-hearted or ultra-sensitive types. A guy I used to work for said, “you begin losing a client the day you sign them.” At the time, I thought it was terrifically cynical, but it’s true and it’s motivating.

I was a partner in a small agency for more than 10 years. Read: put your money where your mouth is.

I’ve learned over time to be a team builder who pulls together the best resources — from both inside and outside of organizations — to get stuff done. Seek opinions and input. Synthesize that information into clarity. Sell the shit out of the collective brilliance.
